Winchester Model 21 – CODY LETTER, 2 BARRELS, PROVENANCE

THIS GUN WAS BUILT FOR Eduardo Propper de Callejon, Minister Plenipotentiary, Counselor of the Embassy of Spain of Washington D.C.  If you Google this man, he has a historic past and played a major role in helping Jews escape the Holocaust and was dignitary to multiple nations.  It is not often a gun with notable provenance is offered for sale and makes this gun most interesting aside from its beauty and usefulness.  The Model 21 is an American icon, and its reputation is well deserved.  A strikingly handsome gun, gunners in the know have utilized the M21 in the field and at the club to shoot thousands of rounds without failure.  IF YOU LIKE HEAVY LOADS FOR PHEASANTS OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS THE GUN.  With only 30,000 produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), any high condition Model 21 is a valuable, investment quality firearm.  There are a LOT of Model 21 guns for sale, so how do you know which one to buy?  Most are poorly restored, heavily altered, need work, and many are misrepresented as original and “factory correct”.  If you buy the right Winchester M21 it will serve you well and increase in value as you enjoy its use, as these are investment quality firearms.  If you are concerned about getting the best value you should look for guns that have Cody Firearms Museum documentation, remain in the same configuration as when they left the factory, are mechanically excellent, and fits your needs for field and clays.  Here we have such a gun, a Cody Firearms documented Model 21 twelve gauge shipped from the factory with two sets of ventilated rib barrels, gorgeous English stock with checkered butt, and still configured exactly as shipped…a rarely encountered group of features.  This M21, sn27988 built in 1952, shipped with a set of most desirable 28” ventilated rib barrels choked WS1/WS2 and a set of 30” ventilated rib barrels choked M/F.  Both sets of barrels retain 99% factory blue, are tight on the hinge pin and breech face with the lever right of center, mirror bores, silver mid bead, and red Bradley front sights.  The action retains 97% factory blue with light wear at carry point, excellent screws, perfect mechanics, trigger guard retains 96% factory blue, crisp trigger pulls and strong well-timed ejectors.  The factory wood is highly figured both sides and has been restored to new with a hand-rubbed oil finish, with stock dimensions matching the letter, checkering like new, wood-to-metal fit superb…just gorgeous!  See specifications below.  This gun checks all the boxes.  We have ordered a Cody Firearms Museum letter for the gun and have an info sheet from Cody included with the photos.  We have custom fit a canvas/leather case to this gun so that the barrels and action cannot move inside the case, with leather abrasion protection where felt usually gets tattered, a leather trade label and all accessories.  It makes for a beautiful and protective display of your fine Winchester, a $1800 value.  This Model 21 will fulfill all your 12 gauge needs for skeet, trap, sporting clays, as well as all upland/waterfowl hunting excursions, AND IT WILL GAIN VALUE OVER TIME.  When you consider the value of the custom case, this is a true bargain on a rare Model 21.  Thanks for looking!
