Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer this Winchester Model 70 Featherweight chambered in .270 Winchester. In 1936 Winchester introduced the Model 70 as the successor to the Model 54, and it picked up the nickname “The Rifleman’s Rifle” that persists today. It retained the Mauser-style controlled round feed action with a large claw extractor, while improving on the Model 54 with a redesigned stock, better scope compatibility, and improved trigger. The Featherweight debuted in 1952, originally offered only in .308, but chamberings like .270 Winchester and .30-06 Springfield followed, with .30-06 becoming the most common. In 1964 Winchester made several design changes to the Model 70, most notably the switch to a push-feed action, which is why the pre-64 guns are the ones many collectors and shooters look for. This example, serial number 558662, produced by Winchester in 1962, is in superb overall condition. It retains 99% factory finish on all parts and has a mirror 10/10 bore and is fitted with a vintage Redfield 4X scope, which we find suits this rifle very well, hence which we have chosen to leave on the rifle.
