The Model 42 is an icon in the ranks of Winchester firearms, made in the days of the highest quality control and hand fitted parts. The Model 42 was a flawlessly produced little pump gun, chambered only for the diminutive .410 shotgun shell. The Winchester Model 42 has been held dear in the eyes of the .410 aficionado, and there has been a strong following for the upgraded guns that have been highly decorated with fine scroll, gold inlays, fancy wood, etc. This is one of those guns, sn72700 built in 1948 with a desirable 28” solid rib barrel that has a mirror shiny bore, 3” chambers, and marked SKEET choke. The gun is an upgraded Model 42 engraved in the Winchester #42-5 pattern with all animals in raised gold inlays, nicely executed banknote scroll with shaded background, barrel wedge and trigger guard receiving flourishes of scroll as well. The familiar pigeon is engraved on the magazine tube. The wood is 3X highly figured feather crotch black walnut finished in a hand-rubbed oil finish, no wear, and clean sharp checkering in the Skeet Grade pattern. The gun is in new condition with only a few of the tiniest handling marks on the barrel and the action showing no wear and 100% blue. The quality of the finish work is top notch. The gun weighs 6lbs. 7oz. and is stocked to 14 ¼” LOP, a bit longer than the factory standard dimensions. The Model 42 is simply a fun gun to shoot and this one, with the 3” chambers and tighter than skeet choke, is a great gun for dove, quail, woodcock, and with the right person behind the gun, even grouse and pheasants. Certainly a gun of beauty and the bell of the ball at your local gun club, these guns maintain there value as you enjoy their use. Vintage Firearms gunsmiths have thoroughly inspected every aspect of this gun, and it is in excellent mechanical condition and ready for the field or clays course. See specifications below.
