From the AyA website: The N° 4 has been AYA’s standard boxlock design since 1960. It is modelled on a Westley Richards boxlock action, brought to Spain by the King brothers. The Anson & Deeley action, the most famous of all boxlock designs, was created by two employees of Westley Richards in 1875, and ever since, Westley Richards guns have defined boxlock elegance. This fine upland gun is an early AyA Model 4 built in 1962, it is serial numbered 158649. Weighing exactly 6 1/2lbs. this handy side-by-side is balanced ahead of the hinge pin. The 16ga. chambering is known to be extra deadly on pheasants, grouse, quail, dove, woodcock and clays. This gun packs a heavier punch than a 20ga for just a few extra ounces! The 28″ barrels are of the chopper lump design, long heralded as the very best method of joining the barrels and utilized mostly in “BEST GUNS” from the likes of Purdey and Holland & Holland. The barrels are tight on the hinge and breech face, have mirror bores, tight ribs, 98% blue, and are choked Mod and Full with 2 ¾” chambers, complete with well-timed ejectors. The receiver retains 99% factory bone and charcoal case color fading to an aged appearance, it has hand chiseled borders and is in perfect mechanical condition with crisp double triggers, auto safety and perfect screws. The European Walnut has nice figure with some fiddleback and excellent hand cut checkering, the length of pull is nice and long at 14 13/16”, VFI can alter this to your specification if required, please call to discuss. Wood to metal fit is excellent and exemplifies AyA’s dedication to true craftsmanship. In addition to AyA’s solid reputation this is also a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, meaning we stripped the action to the smallest part, cleaned all in the Ultrasonic cleaner, scrubbed each part and inspected all for function and integrity, properly lubricated and reassembled. VFI CERTIFIED guns have a 90-day mechanical warranty (a $275 service in our shop). These are known to be highly reliable guns, and this one is nice and light and a joy to handle.
