Description
General Specs: Colt, Year 1890, .41 Long Colt, 24oz., 4 1/2″ Barrel Serial Number: 73854 Vintage Firearms Inc is pleased to offer this Colt Model 1877, also known as the Thunderer. This was Colt’s first Double Action/ Single Action pistol design and in its 32 years of production was as popular as the famous Colt Single Action Army, indeed, the Colt 1877 shows a striking resemblance to the SAA and this was a deliberate ploy by Colt to encourage adoption of its double action revolvers by associating the ‘New Kid On The Block’ with its most famous product! The Model 1877 was chambered in .38 and .41Colt, famously the larger of the calibers was nicknamed the ‘Thunderer’ by Ben Kittredge, a famous entrepreneur, salesman, and news writer of the time and the name stuck. About 167,000 guns with various barrel lengths were manufactured between 1877 and 1909 this example having a 4 ½” barrel with ejector rod. This pistol was built in 1890 and has matching serial numbers. The Hard brown rubber grips are scribed on the inner surface R F MAY 1893, probably a very proud owner of the then state-of-the-Art firearm! This example exhibits 95% case color on the frame. There is strong bluing remaining on the barrel and trigger group with some areas of the factory finish turning to a beautiful sheen. The grips show some handling wear but wear that adds to this sidearms authenticity, a gun that was carried but carefully cared for. The barrel is mirror like and the screws are perfect, the cylinder locks up tightly and the trigger is crisp. A five-digit Model 1877 in the big caliber! A wonderful addition to any Colt collection. This revolver is an antique and can be shipped directly to your home. Thanks for looking! |
