Description
General Specs: Fox, 1909, 12 Gauge, 6lbs.7oz., Chokes CYL/M, LOP 14 1/16″, DAH 3 3/8″, DAC 1 13/16″ Serial Number: 14830 Here we have a superb example of what was referred to in the shotgun world of 1909 as a “Brush Gun”, with factory original 26” #4 weight Krupp Steel barrels factory choked Cylinder and Modified and weighing just 6lbs. 7oz. THE LIGHTEST FOX 12 GAUGE I HAVE EVER OWNED OR WEIGHED. Balanced dead on the hinge pin this gun is lighter than most American double guns in 16 or 20 gauge! This is a very nice Fox B with the early, graceful, English scroll style engraving that is still clear, sharp, and delightful. Fox sn14830 made in 1909, was produced at a time when the finest guns were coming out of Ansley H. Fox’s factory. Ansley was still at the helm, insisting on the highest quality, even doing the final inspection on most guns himself. The internals are highly polished, the factory original butt stock is nicely figured European walnut, and the rib matting and barrels stampings are sharp and clear. THIS IS A FACTORY ORIGINAL GUN IN EVERY WAY, INCLUDING ALL WOOD AND METAL FINISHES AND ALL PARTS OF THE GUN ARE MATCHING SERIAL NUMBERS. The gun is tight as new with the top lever well right of center, excellent screws, perfect mechanics, superb wood to metal fit, perfect mirror shiny bores, everything in remarkable condition for a gun that is 115years old. This Fox shipped with 2 5/8” chambers, and to improve patterns and reduce felt recoil to the shooter and stock, VFI EXTENDED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” HEAVY FIELD LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN. This is a $360 service in our shop. This is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, meaning we stripped the action to the smallest part, cleaned all in the Ultrasonic cleaner, scrubbed each part and inspected all for function and integrity, properly lubricated and reassembled. VFI CERTIFIED guns have a 90-day mechanical warranty (a $275 service in our shop). What a great gun to take afield or to the club with your buddies to break some clays before the fast-approaching upland season. You could literally spend a lifetime searching for a Fox 12ga. gun that weighs under 6 ½ pounds (with a full-length stock and barrels) and never find one. A great value on a nice Fox. Thanks for looking!
